Twins Squelch Athletics Offense in Shutout Win
|
In a low-scoring game between the Minnesota Twins and the Oakland Athletics, pitcher Cole Irvin was masterful on the mound. The Minnesota left-hander spearheaded his team's 3-0 win. Irvin, the winner, moves to 13-12. He threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 3 walks. Carlos Estevez recorded the save for Minnesota, his 27th of the season.
Wander Franco hit a run-scoring double off Taijuan Walker in the bottom of the fourth, which put the Twins in front, 1-0. In addition to the double, Franco had 1 single, while going 2 for 4.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Oakland skipper Jeff Reese, "and it cost us."
Minnesota is 70-89 and Oakland, with the loss, 85-74.
