Mariners Take Down Astros, 2-1
|
Houston pitcher Dylan Cease gave the Mariners all they could handle, but in the end, Seattle left T-Mobile Park with a win, 2-1. Cease allowed 2 runs on 3 hits over 7.2 innings. Ben Joyce, credited with the save, is now 1 for 3 in save opportunities. The win puts Seattle at 83-74 this season.
Had Manny Machado not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Machado hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Mariners.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Machado.
