Home Field Advantage: Canning, Los Angeles Open Wild Card Game with Win
|
The Wild Card Game got off to a quiet start today, with the host Los Angeles Angels taking a low-scoring 2-1 win over the Kansas City Royals. Los Angeles right-hander Griffin Canning was marvelous at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. The Angels now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series.
Michael Busch took Jason Adam deep in the bottom of the eighth. His 2-run home run put the Angels on top, 2-1. In all, Busch had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"There was a kid in the stands with a sign that said 'Los Angeles Angels (probably) 2023 World Series Champions'," Canning told reporters after the game. "I told him, 'Premature, but I like the confidence.'"
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Angel Stadium of Anaheim in Anaheim.
