Rays Top Royals 3-1 to Begin WC

The Tampa Bay Rays powered past the hometown Kansas City Royals, 3-1, in the opener of the Wild Card Game at Kauffman Stadium today. Tampa Bay starting pitcher Yu Darvish threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball, to lead the charge. The Rays now lead the series 1-0.
Darvish, a native of Osaka, Japan, was dealing all game. He kept Kansas City hitters off-balance, while giving the Rays 7 quality innings. Darvish threw 99 pitches, allowing 2 hits and striking out 7.
Darvish called the win "a collective effort."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
