The Detroit Tigers earned a close win over the Boston Red Sox, thanks in part to Zac Gallen. The Detroit right-hander, who finished 4th in the NL in ERA with 2.54 in 2022, played a key role in the 3-1 victory. Gallen, now 4-0, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. The Tigers bumped their record to 33-26 with this win.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand, who is tied for 10th in the AL in triples with 2, had a direct impact on the outcome. Encarnacion-Strand contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth inning to put Detroit up, 2-1.

"Zac is one tough hombre," said Detroit manager Matt Murphy.
