Cubs Tagged with 7-3 Loss
|
The Seattle Mariners topped the Chicago Cubs, 7-3, in American League action at T-Mobile Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Seattle pitcher Aaron Nola. Nola, now 2-0, was the winner. In 5 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 8, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Early on, the Mariners, at 12-4, have played an impressive brand of baseball.
Jake Fraley had a big 3-run home run for the Mariners in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Seattle leading 4-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a fastball from Ricky Tiedemann, who is rated as the 24th best prospect by BNN, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Mariners on top, 7-1.
"Aaron giving us the start that he did was huge," said Seattle manager Patrick Haight.
