Cubs Fall Short, 3-2, at Texas
|
The Texas Rangers stopped the Chicago Cubs, 3-2, behind an impressive performance from Pete Alonso. The three-time All-Star made life miserable for Chicago pitching. He was 2-2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Picking up the win was Jon Gray. He went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs on 2 hits. The right--hander struck out 5 and walked 4. Texas goes to 2-1.
Kolten Wong drove in one run for Texas. The two-time Great Glove Award winner had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Scott Barlow. It was his 2nd RBI of the season.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Joe Clark.
