Cubs Hand Reds 4-2 Loss
|
Brandon Woodruff was outstanding against Cincinnati. The right-hander, who is tied for 4th in the NL in strikeouts with 89, had a fastball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Cubs 4-2 win. Woodruff, now 5-6, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 9, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Ryan Pressly, credited with the save, is now 12 for 15 in save opportunities.
Chicago used a well-timed hit by Oneil Cruz to capture the win. The pinch hitter socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Cubs ahead, 3-2. Though it was his only hit in 1 at-bat, it was important.
"I was the aggressor," said Woodruff. "No doubt about it."
Today's win puts Chicago at 35-31, while Cincinnati falls to 23-43.
