Victory Takes Braves to 23-17
|
The Atlanta Braves defeated the Chicago Cubs, 5-3, at Truist Park. Atlanta shortstop Trevor Story had a superb performance. He went 2-4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs. Jack Flaherty earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 4.2 innings. His record is now 4-1. Kenley Jansen collected save number 11.
The Braves got a big at-bat from center fielder Jake Meyers. For the game, Meyers was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Atlanta a 3-2 lead.
"You need to show up when your number's called," said Meyers.
The first-place Braves have a one-game lead in their division.
