Cubs Trip Pirates, 6-1
|
The exploits of center fielder Corbin Carroll, who is tied for 2nd in the NL in triples with 4, helped the Chicago Cubs defeat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-1. Carroll went 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles. He scored 2 runs. The winner was Brandon Woodruff, who threw 90 pitches over 5 innings. The right-hander was charged with 1 run on 6 hits. Tanner Scott nailed down his 2nd save.
Chicago took the lead, 4-1, on Evan Longoria's 4th home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off Pittsburgh pitcher Jose Quijada in the top of the eighth.
"When you're winning, you walk a little taller," said Cubs manager Joe Clark.
