New York turned a good effort from starter Chris Sale into a win over the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. The Yankees won the game, 6-2. The current losing streak for Tampa Bay has reached 6 games.

New York used a well-timed hit by Mark Mathias to capture the win. The second baseman socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Yankees ahead, 5-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"Chris gave us everything he had," said New York manager Shawn Kineast.
